People all over the UK are switching to Car Clubs. Here are some of the reasons why:

Matthew Peter Sharp, Leeds

No longer having to pay my increasing insurance premium and the running costs of my old car means that now I make substantial saving by being a member of a Car Club, It’s easy! I am pleased that it helps to eliminate the number of vehicles on the road and for me it’s very convenient. Car Clubs mean that I can have the use of a car without the worry, cost and upkeep of my own vehicle.

Kate Evans, York

I use a Car Club to make those journeys that would be impossible on my bike. Joining a Car Club has given me greater freedom to do the things that in the past I would have had to ask friends for help with or done without. I have never been able to justify buying a car and so having access to one as easily as this is great. Car Clubs is definetly the way forward.

It was an extremely easy decision to make when we found out about car clubs. I think that any business that uses pool cars for staff, and even those that operate a company car scheme, should look at a solution such as this. It not only shows immediate cost savings, it sends a very positive environmental message to staff. We recommend Car Clubs to other companies whenever we can.

London commuter

As a motorist in London I was fed up with the expense of owning a car that just sat outside my house when I went to work each day. It was such a drain on my resources that I really had to find another way to travel. I looked at several options, including a bike and just relying on public transport, but I felt I really needed a car for jobs, such as large shopping trips. I was complaining about my predicament to a friend when they told me about car clubs. Initially I was unsure but it is amazing how quickly you get used to it and see real value in terms of saving money. Looking back I almost cannot remember why I even owned a car. As there are cars located all across London now I can use the service from home and from work. It allows me to be flexible and is as convenient as owning my own car.

London Business Manager

-Leading a business presents lots of challenges and one thing that I don’t want to be concerned with is which type of transport to use. Couple this with the fact that I am always looking at the impact of purchasing decisions on my bottom line and how my company and its practices are represented to the outside world in terms of CSR urged me to find out more about car clubs. We have several cars located permanently in our office car park, which means myself and my staff can have immediate access to vehicles; this was particularly important as memories of being late for meetings as I tried to find a black cab still haunt me. The fact that car clubs take cars off the road is an added bonus, I have had several comments from suppliers who are impressed by the fact that we have taken up this green imitative and believe it is an added bonus in terms of dealing with us as a company. Of course it also saves me money on fleet cars and taxi services, which as a business man is one of my biggest priorities!-

Islington Resident

-As a resident of Islington Borough Council, I became aware of an awful lot of car club bays appearing in my local area about a year ago. Therefore, when my old Peugeot was on its last legs, I decided to give joining one of the clubs a go. I could not quite face splashing out on a new car, which would mostly just sit on the side of the road, falling prey to pigeons and vandals! I chose a car clubs that had quite a few cars close to me, near Angel tube station. (There are now 9 cars within half a mile of my flat, and even a van!) Since I’d only ever used my old car a couple of times a week, adapting to the car club way of life was really easy. I now use the bus and tube more. I have even started cycling to work. I manage to get away with taking out a car club car only about twice a month, for journeys like visiting family outside of London, doing a really big shop or picking up friends from the airport.-

Rebecca Farrow, Teacher

I lived in London for about 2 years without a car.  It was OK but very difficult when I had engagements across town and shows to put on at school that meant late nights. A car club had dropped a leaflet through my door and I decided that it seemed like a pretty good deal, as I only had to pay for my membership and although I didn't need a car at the time, it meant that in the future I could use the cars as I soon as I needed one, which I thought was good idea.  A quick call and it was all sorted.  The ease at which I became part of the organisation was brilliant. I have since then booked cars whenever I have needed them.  I like the fact that you can have them for a couple of hours, or a day or 5 days.  It doesn't matter and I find it so easy that you can just book it all on the internet.  The text message that confirms your order is also useful as you have a mobile confirmation of what you are doing.

Normally, I get a car from one of the ten that are within a 10 minute walk from my house!  Sometimes due to weather, or public transport I have had to take one from a location near my work. Whatever the circumstance, booking is so easy and I have never been without a car when I wanted one.  I have booked them weeks in advance and I have also booked them 30 minutes in advance.  There are so many cars, you are never let down.

The reason I love using a car club the most, is that is environmental, ethical and enjoyable..
